About ESI
- Learning objective
Today, one of the greatest concerns for life on earth is the effect of
global warming. Its consequences for life on earth calls for
investigations of changes in living conditions for all organisms. The
main learning objective with this site is to spread knowledge on
relations between environmental change and conditions for life. The
ESI site describes and investigates the problem of declining salmon
populations in the Fraser River, Canada which exemplifies an observed
phenomenon where global warming is thought to play a major role.
The students are challenged to find out why the number of spawning
salmon in the river has decreased dramatically during recent years. In
their search for relevant answers to this question they are guided by
a rich set of information and scientific data. Consequently, their
mission is called ESI – Environmental Science Investigation
